Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
SpeakUp is a product of ActuAlive, operated by Nathan Hart ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and families who use our application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information in connection with the SpeakUp application ("App").
1. Our Commitment to Children's Privacy
SpeakUp is designed for use by children ages 2-8, with parental supervision and consent. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
2. Information We Collect
From Parents/Guardians:
- Email address (for account creation and waitlist)
- Name (optional, for account personalization)
- Payment information (processed by third-party payment providers; we do not store payment details)
From Children's Use of the App:
- Activity progress and session data (stored locally on-device)
- Speech and audio data (processed entirely on-device for speech recognition; never transmitted to our servers)
- In-app preferences and settings
We do NOT collect:
- Location data from children
- Photos, videos, or biometric data from children
- Contact information from children
- Persistent identifiers for behavioral advertising
3. On-Device Processing
SpeakUp's core AI features, including speech recognition and activity recommendations, are processed locally on your iPad. Your child's speech audio is never uploaded to external servers. This design ensures maximum privacy and allows the app to work offline.
4. How We Use Information
- To provide and improve the SpeakUp service
- To communicate with parents about their account, updates, and support
- To generate anonymized, aggregated analytics to improve the app (no individual child data is included)
- To send waitlist updates and product announcements (parents only, with consent)
5. No Advertising
SpeakUp does not display any advertising to children. We do not use children's data for advertising purposes. We do not share data with advertising networks or data brokers.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties except:
- With your explicit consent (e.g., sharing progress reports with your child's speech-language pathologist)
- With service providers who assist in operating the app (bound by confidentiality agreements)
- As required by law or to protect the safety of children
7. Parental Consent and Controls
We require verifiable parental consent before collecting any information related to a child's use of the app. Parents can at any time:
- Review their child's information
- Request deletion of their child's data
- Refuse further collection of their child's information
- Manage notification preferences
8. Data Retention and Deletion
On-device data remains on your iPad and can be deleted by removing the app. Account-related data (parent email, preferences) is retained while your account is active. You may request complete deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
9. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect information. On-device data is encrypted using iOS native encryption. Any data transmitted to our servers uses TLS encryption.
10. COPPA Compliance
SpeakUp fully complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We:
- Obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting children's information
- Provide parents with notice of our information practices
- Give parents the ability to review and delete their child's information
- Do not condition a child's participation on providing more information than reasonably necessary
- Maintain reasonable security procedures
11. Changes to This Policy
We will notify parents of any material changes to this Privacy Policy via email before the changes take effect. Continued use of the app after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
